Orthodox Parish

After The book of Kells.
Stephanie, 13 years old.

The first Divine Liturgy of our community was celebrated on the 29th of November 2003, the day of St. Apostle and Evangelist Matthew. The service took place in the former Franciscan church ( Mariakapel ) on Tiensestraat in Leuven. Since September 2004 we have moved into the chapel of the Latin-American College on Tervuursestraat 56, Leuven.

Our community works with a blessing of Vladyka Simon, Archbishop of Brussels and Belgium from the Patriarchate of Moscow. His blessing has taken us way up to where we are now.

The Divine Liturgy is celebrated in our church every Sunday at 10 a.m. The schedule of other services may be found in our calendar. Since the beginning Church Slavonic, Dutch and English have been and still are official liturgical languages of our parish.

Of course the children are warmly welcome. They have our special attention during the Liturgy.

Since November, the 20th, 2004 our community has been officially recognized as a Parish by the Patriarchate of Moscow.

Read the vita of Saint Apostle and Evangelist Matthew, the Patron of our Church, in Russian or in Dutch.

Donations are welcome on account # 001-4445621-90 of the Orthodox Parish of Saint-Matthew.
